Chalkborn Conservation

Plastering, pointing and repair of Historic Buildings
I am located near Shaftesbury and trading as Chalkborn Conservation, I am professionally dedicated to the conservation, repair and preservation of historic and traditional buildings.

Lime-based mortars, renders, plasters and paints are the elemental material used to build and restore the fabric and aesthetics of traditionally built homes and structures.
Effective conservation and restoration can only be achieved by due respect to and observation of 'Best Practice' for the use of these materials. It is by correct Practice that the buildings will be repaired and conserved into posterity, thereby achieving much more than purely aesthetic integrity.

I continue to develop and enrich my understanding of the history, regional and vernacular craftsmanship, constituents and methods for application of lime and earth-based materials by attending Continuous Professional Development courses and by maintaining links through membership of SPAB and The Building Limes Forum.
In 2016 I invested in a Building Conservation Masterclass at West Dean College of Arts and Crafts - for the Conservation and Repair of Plasters, Mortars and Renders for the effective repair and conservation of historic buildings and Cob structures.

Chalkborn provides a professional service and consultancy service for the selection and matching of materials for historic buildings or newly built extensions by the use of
thermally efficient lime eco-cork and hemp-lime plasters and by the traditional application of natural hydraulic and chalk-lime plasters to cob and render repairs.
I aim to provide practical, informed assessments that will underpin the understanding of fundamental practical issues that affect the welfare of old and historic houses and structures.
